Best Beach Campsites in Greece

In Greece, camping means camping by the sea — small, independent, family-run sites a few steps from the water, not the big animation resorts you find in Croatia or Italy. We ranked these on what makes a Greek beach camp worth the drive: the beach itself, scenery, friendly staff and cleanliness.

Two things hold right across the Greek coast in our analysis: scenery and welcoming staff are near-universal strengths — and mosquitoes are the near-universal weak spot, so pack repellent wherever you go. Value is mixed, though often gentler than Croatia or Italy, and most of these places rent few or no cabins, so many are bring-your-own-tent-or-van. We've spread the picks from the Peloponnese across the Ionian and Epirus coast up to Halkidiki, so there's a strong option whichever way you're heading.

1. Lefka Beach Camping — Vivári (Argolida, Peloponnese)

Strong: scenic · quiet · clean · beach.

A small, chic, family-run seafront site on the Argolic Gulf. Terraced pitches give most spots a sea view, the private beach has clear water over a charming sand-and-pebble shore, and it stays genuinely peaceful — well away from the crowds.

Stays: tent and caravan/RV pitches only — there are no rental cabins, so bring your own home.

The catch: it's priced at a premium (comparable sites nearby cost less), and mosquitoes are a real nuisance here — come prepared.

2. Camping Acrogiali — Rizá (Epirus, Ionian coast)

Strong: clean · scenic · staff · beach · quiet.

A remote, tranquil cove with water so clear you can pick out the reefs on a calm day. Front-row pitches catch the sunsets, the grounds are spotless, and the pitches are well shaded.

Stays: apartments and pitches.

The catch: it's a pebble entry (water shoes help) and genuinely out of the way; the back pitches lose the sea view, so ask for the front rows.

3. Camping Mitari — Níkiti (Halkidiki, Sithonia)

Strong: clean · beach · scenic · staff · quiet.

Our Halkidiki pick — impeccably clean, right on a sandy Sithonia beach with lovely water, friendly reception, plus a mini-market and beach bar on site.

Stays: mobile homes and pitches.

The catch: Sithonia fills up in August, so beaches and paths get crowded at the peak — and mosquitoes get a mention here too.

4. Camping Semeli — Leonídio (Arcadia, Peloponnese)

Strong: beach · scenic · staff · clean · quiet.

A dream-like, peaceful spot beneath the dramatic red cliffs of Leonidio: a clean, well-kept beach with shade, parasols and loungers, and a calm, family feel in the evenings.

Stays: glamping, apartments and pitches.

The catch: it's a long, winding drive to reach this stretch of the Arcadian coast — and while staff are warm, problem-solving can turn a little brisk.

5. Camping Valtos — Párga (Epirus, Ionian)

Strong: beach · scenic · staff · clean · quiet (with excellent shade).

On the famous Valtos beach just outside Parga: crystalline sand-and-pebble water steps from your pitch, sailboat views across the bay, tall shade trees, and a walkable position near town.

Stays: mobile homes, cottages, apartments and pitches — the widest choice here.

The catch: it packs in densely at the height of summer, and the heavy tree shade that keeps it cool can leave the air still on hot, windless days.

6. Camping Mani Beach — Agadaíika (Mani, Peloponnese)

Strong: beach · clean · staff · quiet.

The value pick of the group — direct access to a clean sandy beach, reasonable prices, a mini-market and an affordable on-site restaurant, and roomy pitches in the olive groves. It also draws fewer mosquito complaints than most.

Stays: glamping and pitches; one of the larger sites here.

The catch: the sea view depends on where you pitch (the front rows get it), and from late July the calm gives way to a noticeably busier scene.

7. Camping Stavros — Néos Marmarás (Halkidiki, Sithonia)

Strong: beach · clean · staff · scenic.

A second Sithonia option with a private, well-kept sandy bay reserved for guests, sunset views, attentive problem-solving staff, and a reasonably priced mini-market and restaurant.

Stays: mobile homes, cottages, apartments and pitches.

The catch: it feels cramped at peak, night-time dog barking can break the quiet, the shop has gaps (no ice), and mosquitoes are a known issue.

8. Camping Meltemi — Gýtheio (Mani gateway, Peloponnese)

Strong: scenic · beach · staff · clean.

The most full-service pick — a wide sandy beach backed by olive groves with views across to the peninsulas, spacious pitches, an affordable on-site taverna, and the broadest range of facilities on this list.

Stays: mobile homes, glamping, cottages and pitches; the largest site here.

The catch: being bigger, it's less intimate than the small coves above; cleanliness can dip at busy times of day, and it crowds up in peak summer.

How to choose

  • Peloponnese — scenic, quieter bays: Lefka Beach, Semeli, Mani Beach (best value), Meltemi (most facilities).
  • Epirus / Ionian coast — crystal water near Parga: Valtos (widest stays), Acrogiali (remote, spotless).
  • Halkidiki / Sithonia — classic sandy-beach camping: Mitari, Stavros.
  • Want a rental, not a tent? Valtos, Stavros and Meltemi have the widest choice; Lefka Beach is pitches-only.

Wherever you land: scenery and staff you can count on, mosquitoes you should plan around, and shoulder season beats the August peak on crowds, heat and bugs alike.

FAQ

When is the best time to camp on the Greek coast?

May–June and September: warm sea, far fewer crowds, and noticeably fewer mosquitoes than the still, hot heart of summer.

Sandy or pebble beaches?

Both. The sandy picks are Mitari, Semeli, Mani Beach, Stavros and Meltemi, with Valtos a sand-and-pebble mix; Acrogiali is a clearer-water pebble cove. Pack water shoes for pebble entries.

Are mosquitoes really a problem?

Yes — across most Greek coastal sites. Pack repellent (and a plug-in for cabins), and favour shoulder season, when it's much better.

Do these have cabins or mobile homes, or only pitches?

Most rent mobile homes, cottages or glamping — Valtos, Stavros and Meltemi have the widest choice. Lefka Beach is pitches-only, so bring your own tent or van.

Which region should I base in?

The Peloponnese for scenic, quieter bays; Epirus and the Ionian coast for crystal water around Parga; Halkidiki's Sithonia peninsula for classic sandy-beach camping.
